Last Minute Gift Guide: Food gifts we’d love to get

Are you ready for Christmas yet?  If not, how about some tasty last minute gift ideas?  Edible gifts are always great to give (and receive) and these go beyond the old Fruit-of-the-Month clubs or mediocre salami and cheese gifts sets.

Love with Food Subscription: A great last minute idea is a subscription to a box of goodies. Plus, it’s a gift that keeps on giving.  Choose a single box, 3 months, 6 months, or a year of boxes fully of yummy snacks.  Check our our reviews here and here.  As a bonus, for every box they send out, they give a meal to someone in need.

Dang Coconut Chips: We got these in one of our Love with Food boxes and fell in love. Amy was lucky enough to find them on sale at T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s, but they are also available on here or here.  And they come in a caramel version.  Oh my.

Local food gifts: Are you traveling this holiday season?  Why not bring some local food finds with you?  This is especially great idea for family or friends that have moved and miss their hometown.  I went to visit a couple that had moved from Nashville and brought along a 6 pack of local Yazoo beer and some Olive and Sinclair chocolate bars (made locally).  If you’re from Lexington, you could try coffee with local ties (you can stop in and grab a bag here or here) or some fantastic cheese spreads from Dad’s Favorites (you can find their products at any of these stores in KY and OH).  Gifts like these support local businesses and show hometown pride! Plus you can grab them on your way out of town and no one will know you procrastinated.

Ice cream: OK. So this is bit indulgent, but you can have ice cream shipped! How awesome would it be to come home to a cooler full of dry ice and one of these amazing ice cream treats.  Interestingly enough, both of these awesome ice cream makers hail from Ohio and make their desserts in small batches using the best ingredients.  Check out:

  • Graeter’s Ice Cream: Favorite flavor- anything with chocolate chips, really chocolate chunks. Yummmm.
  • Jeni’s Splendid Ice creams: Favorite flavor- so many great choices, but the Sweet Potato Marshmallow is my current seasonal favorite.  They have some different flavors so be daring, but be quick.  Many are only available for a limited time.

Local gift certificates: For your picky foodie friends, a gift certificate to a local establishment allows them to choose their own gift.  Both Lexington and Nashville (or your hometown) have a plethora of local restaurants, bakeries, doughnut shops, and breweries just waiting to be discovered. Give a certificate from your favorite place or try somewhere new.

Foodie IOU:
Choose a restaurant and give your friend an IOU for coffee, lunch, dinner, ice cream…you get the picture. The point is to reserve some future friend time. It’ll be a great gift for both of you!
